Ajman Municipality Tests 2,438 Food Samples with 93% Compliance Rate in Q1
The Ajman Municipality and Planning Department announced the testing of 2,438 food samples at the Department’s food laboratory during the first quarter of 2026, achieving a compliance rate of 93%, within an integrated regulatory framework to enhance food safety, in alignment with the strategic objective of strengthening food and environmental management and in keeping with Ajman Vision 2030 directions to raise quality of life in the Emirate.
Dr. Eng. Khalid Maeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector, affirmed that the results reflect the effectiveness of the Emirate’s regulatory framework and the Department’s ongoing efforts to enhance food safety and protect community health, in line with international best practices. He noted that the food laboratory employs advanced analytical technologies, including PCR devices and DNA analysis techniques, as well as GC and HPLC, enabling highly accurate testing and the issuance of results within hours compared to traditional methods, contributing to improved operational efficiency and accelerated procedures.
He added that the test results reflect a high level of compliance with food safety standards, within a regulatory framework built on the latest laboratory technologies.
Makkiya Ghaloom, Director of the Central Laboratories Department, explained that the laboratory continues to develop its technical capabilities to ensure the accuracy and speed of test results. She noted that the unified laboratory management system ‘Faahes’ has contributed to accelerating procedures, reducing paperwork, and enabling the electronic submission, tracking, and reporting of requests, thereby enhancing digital integration between laboratory and regulatory operations.
She indicated that the food samples tested covered meat, poultry and their products, dairy and dairy derivatives, processed food products, confectionery, oils and fats, grains and legumes, beverages, and other products circulating in the Emirate’s markets, sourced from food establishments, retail outlets, and markets. All samples were subjected to physical, chemical, and microbiological testing to verify their compliance with approved standard specifications.
The Department implements a comprehensive food safety plan within an integrated system of regulatory programmes and initiatives, encompassing inspection campaigns, agricultural product testing, and food monitoring in schools and markets, in support of the Emirate’s food safety framework, contributing to the protection of community health, the elevation of quality of life, and the consolidation of consumer confidence in the quality of products circulating in the markets.
