His Highness Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi

H.H. Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Federal Supreme Council and Ruler of the Emirate of Ajman, is the second son of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi and the ninth Ruler of Ajman. Born in Ajman, His Highness grew up in a family renowned for governance and knowledge, with a strong sense of duty to advance the emirate and preserve its deep-rooted heritage.

In his early years, His Highness memorised the Holy Qur’an and studied reading, writing, arithmetic and the principles of religion with established scholars, alongside practical training in horsemanship and arms. From a young age, he learned administrative directly from his father and, in 1960, was appointed Crown Prince, actively contributing to the foundations of modern Ajman.

In 1966, His Highness was elected Deputy Chairman of the Trucial States Council, and from 1968 he took part in the preliminary discussions that led to the establishment of the United Arab Emirates, accompanying or representing his late father. Following the passing of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi on 6 September 1981, His Highness assumed the reins of government, continuing a course of development and progress.

Under his leadership, Ajman has witnessed comprehensive development across infrastructure, the economy, education, health and social services. Pivotal initiatives include the development of Ajman Port and the Ajman Free Zone, which strengthened commercial activity, attracted investment and fostered a promising business environment.

Guided by a deep belief in human capital, His Highness founded Ajman University College in 1988 later became Ajman University, which has become one of the region’s notable academic institutions. He launched the Rashid bin Humaid Award for Culture and Science in 1983, established the country’s first social solidarity fund to support marriage, and founded the International Charity Organization in the same year, among the UAE’s earliest charitable societies, continuing its humanitarian mission locally and internationally.

In the field of women’s empowerment, His Highness established the Umm Al Moumineen Women’s Association and launched the Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi Charitable Foundation to support vulnerable groups. His vision aligns with sustainable development and investment in people, reflected in Ajman Vision 2030, which seeks balanced progress that combines modernity with the preservation of national identity

His Highness is known for his piety, ethical conduct and close connection to the community. He pays particular attention to traditional sports such as camel racing, horsemanship and marine races, and he supports a wide range of sporting activities that strengthen social bonds and national identity.

His Highness has been recognised with an Honorary Doctorate in Law from the University of Bedfordshire (2009) and an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy from the International Islamic University Malaysia (2011), and he received the Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic Performance in 2011.

H.H. the Ruler of Ajman has four sons: H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Sheikh Ahmed bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, and Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, each serving the emirate and the nation in their respective fields.
