The Faculty of Law at City University Ajman, in collaboration with the Department of Legal Affairs of the Ajman Government, organised the conference “Legislative Innovation and Artificial Intelligence in the United Arab Emirates”, attended by a distinguished selection of Their Excellencies and experts and specialists in the legal, legislative, and technical fields.
The conference was attended by a number of prominent legal and judicial figures, among them His Excellency Counsellor Dr. Mohammed Mahmoud Al Kamali, Director General of the Judicial Training and Studies Institute at the Ministry of Justice, and His Excellency Counsellor Dawood Ibrahim Abu Al Shawareb, Judge at the Federal Supreme Court, within the framework of supporting efforts to develop the legislative environment and strengthening the role of artificial intelligence in modernising legal systems and foresighting the future of legislation in the United Arab Emirates.
The conference proceedings opened with the UAE National Anthem, followed by an address by Mr. Imran Khan, President of City University Ajman, in which he affirmed that the world is witnessing an unprecedented technological transformation driven by artificial intelligence technologies and digital systems, which places legal systems under an obligation not only to regulate this change, but to anticipate it as well.
He noted that the United Arab Emirates has emerged as a leading global model with a proactive vision in the fields of innovation, governance, and legislative modernisation, affirming that universities bear a pivotal responsibility in shaping the future through supporting national dialogue and scientific research, and preparing legal professionals capable of navigating the growing interplay between law, technology, public policy, and ethics.
Mr. Nasser Hamad Al Qahtani, Director of the Legislation Department at the Ajman Government’s Department of Legal Affairs, affirmed that legislative innovation represents a fundamental pillar in the development of the legal framework, in alignment with the UAE’s vision for the future and its directions towards digital transformation and smart governance.
He also delivered an introductory presentation on the Department of Legal Affairs of the Ajman Government, in which he reviewed the most prominent initiatives and developmental projects being implemented by the Department in the field of developing the legislative environment and enhancing the efficiency of legal services.
The conference also featured an address by His Excellency Major General Dr. Abdul Qudoos Abdul Razzaq Al Obaidli, President of the Emirates Intellectual Property Association, in which he affirmed the importance of developing legislation related to technology and intellectual property to keep pace with rapidly accelerating global developments.
The conference proceedings included a workshop entitled “The Experience of the UAE Ministry of Justice in the Field of Legislative Innovation”, presented by Counsellor Saud Buhendi, Adviser at the Ministry of Justice, in which he reviewed the Ministry’s efforts in developing the legislative framework and employing innovation and modern technology to support the efficiency of legal and judicial work.
The organisation of this conference affirms City University Ajman’s commitment to its academic and knowledge-based role in supporting scientific research and strengthening cooperation between academic institutions and government entities, thereby contributing to the building of an advanced legislative environment grounded in innovation and knowledge, and keeping pace with future transformations.
