The Ajman Department of Municipal Affairs and Planning announced that the Building Materials Laboratory issued more than 27,000 reports during the first quarter of 2026, reflecting the sustained momentum of the construction and building boom in the Emirate, in alignment with the strategic objective of comprehensive urban management and in line with the directions of Ajman Vision 2030 to create a civilised environment that enhances the Emirate’s attractiveness and quality of life.

In this regard, Dr. Engineer Khaled Moin Al Housani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, affirmed that building materials testing reports represent a fundamental pillar in ensuring project quality. He explained that these reports are issued after samples undergo a series of tests in accordance with international standards such as ASTM, BS and EN, encompassing the evaluation of the physical, mechanical and chemical properties of materials, to ensure that materials used comply with the highest standards and specifications.

Diversity of Tests

Dr. Al Housani noted that the first quarter of the current year saw a focus on a range of vital tests, most notably concrete tests such as compressive strength and slump tests, soil tests, reinforcement steel and asphalt material tests, aggregate tests, as well as durability, sustainability and chemical tests.

Urban Expansion in the Emirate

Engineer Abdullah Al Tamimi, Director of the Central Laboratories Department at the Department, explained that the Emirate of Ajman is witnessing urban expansion and a sustained increase in infrastructure, construction and building projects. He noted that the reports issued reflect the growing demand for testing services amid the continuity of construction projects, with demand for laboratory services linked to several key factors, including the expansion of construction and development projects, the tightening of quality and technical supervision requirements, the growing awareness among customers of the importance of laboratory testing, and compliance with the regulations and legislation governing the construction sector.

Digital Transformation and Streamlined Procedures

Al Tamimi noted that the laboratory has implemented several initiatives to improve the customer experience, including the acceleration of sample receipt and delivery procedures, the provision of integrated electronic services, and the reduction of report issuance time through integration with the Emaar system. He added that the use of smart systems has contributed to improving sample tracking efficiency, reducing testing cycle time and enhancing data accuracy, noting that operations are conducted under the LIMS system.

Future Vision

It is worth noting that the laboratory is adopting future plans that include the adoption of the latest testing and analysis technologies, alongside the development of technical competencies and the expansion of international accreditations, reinforcing its standing as a trusted centre at both regional and international levels and supporting the journey of innovation and digital transformation in the Emirate of Ajman.
