The Ajman Municipality and Planning Department continues the implementation of the City Centre Road Development Project at a total cost of AED 230 million, as part of its efforts to enhance infrastructure efficiency and improve the quality of life for residents and visitors. The project aligns with Ajman Vision 2030, which aims to build an integrated and sustainable mobility system, while supporting the strategic objective of improving the quality and connectivity of the road network across the Emirate.
The project comprises two main phases aimed at developing the road network in key areas of the Emirate, enhancing traffic flow and improving connectivity between residential, commercial, and service areas.
**Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Mheiri**, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector at the Department, affirmed that the City Centre Road Development Project is one of the strategic projects being implemented by the Department to enhance the efficiency of the road network and strengthen connectivity between vital areas of the Emirate, in line with rapid urban and population growth and the requirements of sustainable development.
He explained that Phase One of the project will have a direct positive impact on traffic flow in the city centre, contributing to improved mobility with a capacity exceeding 12,000 vehicles per hour, while reducing journey times along the developed roads by up to 45 per cent.
Al Mheiri noted that the project includes widening roads to three lanes in each direction, converting Al Rashidiya Garden Roundabout into a signalised intersection, upgrading pavements and pedestrian pathways, installing smart lighting systems and modern traffic signals, implementing stormwater drainage network works, and constructing a dedicated stormwater drainage facility.
For his part, **Eng. Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi**, Director of the Roads and Infrastructure Department, explained that the project’s design and planning were guided by the objective of achieving the highest levels of operational efficiency for the road network through the development of major traffic corridors in the city centre and improved connectivity between residential, commercial, and service areas.
Al Marzouqi stated that the scope of works includes the development of intersections, increasing road capacity, upgrading pavements and pedestrian pathways, enhancing road safety elements, and developing stormwater drainage networks, thereby improving infrastructure efficiency and elevating the experience of road users.
He noted that Phase Two of the project targets the development of Sheikh Rashid bin Humaid Street in the areas of Liewara, Al Rashidiya, Al Nakheel, and Al Rumailah through the upgrading of intersections along the road, as well as improvements to pavements, parking facilities, and stormwater drainage networks, enhancing traffic flow efficiency and keeping pace with the Emirate’s rapid urban growth.
The implementation of Phase Two will increase the road’s capacity by 2,787 vehicles per hour in the direction of Ajman Corniche and 2,142 vehicles per hour in the direction of Ajman Gate Roundabout, while reducing journey times by up to 45 per cent.
Phase Two is scheduled to continue for 15 months, commencing in the third quarter of 2026 and concluding in the fourth quarter of 2027, as part of the Department’s efforts to deliver high-quality services that contribute to achieving the objectives of Ajman Vision 2030 and enhancing the quality of life for all members of society.
