Ajman Municipality & Planning Department has announced its full readiness for the rainy season following the completion of an integrated preparedness plan to enhance infrastructure efficiency and improve the readiness of stormwater drainage networks and stations. The plan aims to accelerate water drainage, ensure smooth traffic flow and safeguard community members.
As part of efforts to monitor rainy season preparations, Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, inspected stormwater drainage stations, accompanied by Engineer Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, Director of the Roads and Infrastructure Department, along with experts, specialists, engineers and work teams. The inspection covered the stations’ readiness and operational efficiency, maintenance works, technical preparations, and the capacity of equipment and operating systems to handle stormwater flows, ensuring the system’s continued operation and enhanced readiness during the rainy season.
Dr. Eng. Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi affirmed that preparations form part of the Department’s ongoing efforts to develop its stormwater drainage system, enhance infrastructure efficiency and strengthen field readiness to respond to different weather conditions through preventive maintenance, the development of vital projects, and the provision of equipment and specialised personnel.
He explained that the Department has prepared 82 pumps and 15 tankers to address stormwater accumulation and deployed 14 field teams comprising 60 engineers and specialists and 173 workers. The teams operate in accordance with preparedness and field-response plans to ensure the swift handling of reports and emergencies according to each location’s requirements.
He noted that the emirate’s stormwater drainage system currently includes 29 stations, with the number set to reach 32 by the end of this year. This coincides with the continued expansion of drainage networks, whose total length reached 81.65 kilometres by the end of 2025 and is expected to increase to 89.3 kilometres by the end of 2026, enhancing network capacity and supporting efficient drainage across different areas.
He added that the Department continues preventive maintenance of approximately 18,500 stormwater drainage inlets, including cleaning, maintenance and readiness checks. These efforts improve water flow and minimise obstructions that could affect drainage efficiency during rainfall.
For his part, Engineer Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi outlined ongoing development projects, including the City Centre Roads Development Project, the development of the stormwater drainage station on Sheikh Zayed Street, and the construction of a stormwater drainage station in Al Safia on Abu Musa Island Street. He affirmed that these projects represent important additions to the infrastructure system and contribute to enhancing drainage efficiency at the targeted locations.
He explained that preparation and maintenance works cover several major streets and routes in the emirate, including Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street, Sheikh Zayed Street, Sheikh Khalifa Street, Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Street, Al Zaher Street, Abu Musa Island Street and University Street, alongside main roads in Al Jurf. The works focus on locations requiring improved drainage efficiency based on their operational needs.
He noted that the construction of new drainage stations in the city centre, on Sheikh Zayed Street and in Al Safia, alongside network development and continuous maintenance, will further enhance the system’s efficiency during the current rainy season.
He affirmed that coordination and integration with relevant entities are fundamental pillars of the preparedness plan. The Department works in cooperation with the National Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), Ajman Police General Headquarters, Ajman Civil Defence General Directorate, Etihad Water and Electricity (EtihadWE) and Ajman Sewerage to unify efforts, enhance readiness and strengthen the response to weather-related emergencies.
The Department called on the emirate’s residents and visitors to follow the guidance and instructions issued by the competent authorities during adverse weather conditions and periods of rainfall.
