Ajman Municipality & Planning Department has announced the completion of 75% of the first phase of the City Centre Roads Development Project and 25% of the Al Hamidiya Street Development Project.
The announcement came during a field visit in which His Excellency Abdulrahman Mohammed Al Nuaimi, Director General of Ajman Municipality & Planning Department, reviewed the progress of the City Centre Roads Development Project. He was accompanied by Dr Engineer Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, and Engineer Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, Director of the Roads and Infrastructure Department.
During the visit, His Excellency reviewed project updates and completion rates.
The project forms part of the Department’s efforts to enhance the efficiency of the road and infrastructure network, improve traffic flow, and support urban growth requirements in vital areas of the emirate. It aligns with the direction towards building an integrated and sustainable mobility system and supports the Department’s strategic objective of improving the quality and connectivity of Ajman’s road network.
Dr Engineer Mohammed Ahmed bin Omair Al Muhairi, Executive Director of the Infrastructure Development Sector, affirmed that the Department is working in accordance with a comprehensive and integrated plan covering all areas of Ajman, implementing development works to the highest standards of quality and efficiency.
He noted that the plan ensures the development of an integrated road network that responds to current and future needs and enhances traffic efficiency in the city centre.
He explained that completed works include the completion of core works on Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Street; the connection of Masfout Street with Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum Street; the opening of the intersection near Al Rashidiya Park; the continued development of Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street; and the completion of civil works for the stormwater drainage station.
He added that work is under way to complete development works on Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Al Zaher Street, as well as remaining sections of the stormwater drainage network.
For his part, Engineer Abdullah Mustafa Al Marzouqi, Director of the Roads and Infrastructure Department, explained that the Department is committed to opening completed sections and intersections to traffic progressively. This enables road users to benefit from completed works without having to wait for all components of a project phase to be finalised, thereby ensuring smoother traffic flow.
He stated that several intersections and roads have already been opened as part of the project, including the intersection of Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Street; the intersection of Sheikh Rashid bin Abdulaziz Street and Anas bin Malik Street; and the intersection of Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid bin Rashid Street and Al Zaher Street near Al Rashidiya Park.
He added that work teams are continuing the remaining activities in accordance with the approved programme, with a focus on completing the stormwater drainage network and road-related works. He confirmed that the project is progressing in line with set targets and is expected to open at the beginning of next year, ahead of the completion of subsequent phases in accordance with approved plans.
The field visit also included an inspection of the first phase of the Al Hamidiya Street Development Project, which has reached 25% completion. The project extends from Mohammed bin Rashid Street to the border road.
The project includes widening Al Hamidiya Street to three lanes in each direction from Mohammed bin Rashid Street to its intersection with Jeddah Street, and two lanes in each direction from Jeddah Street to the border road, in addition to upgrading pavements and parking facilities.
Road preparation works along the stretch from Mohammed bin Rashid Street to the border road have been completed, in preparation for the subsequent pavement layers. The project is expected to open at the beginning of next year.
The project aims to improve traffic flow, enhance the road’s level of service, and complete the extension of Al Hamidiya Street through to its connection with the border road. This will enhance road network efficiency and support traffic movement in the area.
The City Centre Roads and Al Hamidiya Street development projects form part of the Department’s projects to develop infrastructure and enhance road-network efficiency, supporting smoother traffic flow, improving quality of life, and raising the standard of services and infrastructure in vital areas of the emirate.
