The Ajman Department of Municipal Affairs and Planning has announced that submissions are still being accepted for the third edition of the Humaid bin Rashid International Sustainability Award, one of the leading international initiatives aimed at supporting environmental innovation and advancing applied scientific research in the fields of environmental sustainability, green technology and sustainable development. The Award is aligned with the directions of Ajman Vision 2030 to promote environmental sustainability, and is consistent with the strategic objectives linked to advancing the transition towards carbon neutrality, improving air quality, and protecting biodiversity and natural resources.
In this regard, Dr. Engineer Khaled Moin Al Housani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, affirmed that the Award represents a leading international platform for encouraging qualitative initiatives and innovative solutions that contribute to addressing contemporary environmental challenges, and promote the adoption of sustainable development models based on the efficient use of natural resources and the reduction of environmental impacts. He noted that the Award was launched in its first edition in 2018 during the Ajman International Environment Conference, where it achieved distinguished results in terms of the research, initiatives and ideas presented.
Dr. Al Housani indicated that the deadline for submitting applications to participate in the Award’s third edition is 30 April 2026, with presentations by shortlisted finalists scheduled to take place in August, while winners will be announced and honoured in October 2026 during the Ajman International Environment Conference, in the presence of a distinguished gathering of experts, decision-makers and researchers from across the world.
He noted that the current edition focuses on fostering innovation in sustainability by encouraging the submission of new solutions or the development of existing ones that contribute to reducing environmental impacts and improving the efficiency of natural resource management, alongside an emphasis on the practical applicability of projects and ideas, ensuring their feasibility under current economic and technological conditions and the achievement of tangible environmental impact.
New Category in the Current Edition
Dr. Al Housani added that the Award places special emphasis on supporting green technology that contributes to reducing carbon emissions, improving resource management and advancing the green economy. He noted that a new category has been introduced in this edition entitled “Innovative Ideas in Sustainability”, with the aim of supporting the transformation of innovative ideas into practical, applicable projects that contribute to improving environmental and living quality.
Award Categories
The Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department explained that the Award comprises four main categories targeting various segments of the scientific and institutional community: the Scientific Research category, awarded to the best research presenting innovative and applicable solutions in the field of sustainability; the Environmental Personality category, honouring a prominent individual who has contributed to supporting environmental work and spreading environmental awareness; the Sustainable Institutions category, awarded to government or private institutions that apply best environmental practices and contribute to the protection of natural resources and the achievement of sustainable development; and the Innovative Ideas in Sustainability category.
Submissions received from across the world are evaluated by a specialised judging panel applying a set of precise scientific and practical criteria, most notably the level of innovation, practical applicability and environmental impact, the extent to which the project contributes to environmental protection, pollution reduction and natural resource conservation, as well as economic and social benefit, practical outcomes and cost efficiency.
He affirmed that the Award contributes to enhancing the Emirate of Ajman’s standing as a regional hub for environmental dialogue and innovation in sustainability, by attracting international expertise and encouraging global cooperation in addressing environmental challenges, in line with the UAE’s directions in supporting the green economy, achieving sustainable development goals and consolidating a culture of environmental responsibility for future generations.
