The third edition of the Ajman Esports Championship, organised by the Ajman Department of Tourism, Culture and Media at Ajman Youth Centre, got underway yesterday, running from 14 to 17 May.
A total of 823 male and female players from various age categories are participating in the third edition of the Championship, competing across four main games: FC 26, TEKKEN, Street Fighter, and Assetto Corsa, alongside a diverse range of interactive activities and games, including arcade games and virtual reality experiences.
The Championship is being organised as part of the Ajman Department of Tourism, Culture and Media’s ongoing efforts to organise events that resonate with the interests of young people, contribute to enhancing Ajman’s standing as an attractive destination for sports and leisure tourism, and elevate quality of life in the Emirate in alignment with the targets of Ajman Vision 2030.
The organising committee has allocated cash prizes exceeding AED 100,000, with the aim of fostering a spirit of positive competition among participants and encouraging young talents to develop their skills in the gaming and esports sector, thereby contributing to the promotion of a culture of digital creativity among the youth.
The Championship opened with an open day dedicated to all players across all games, whilst the second day featured TEKKEN and Street Fighter qualifiers. The third day is scheduled to host FC 26 qualifiers, with the Championship concluding on Sunday with the semi-finals and finals across all competitions, followed by the crowning of winners at 8:30 pm.
His Excellency Mahmoud Khalil Al Hashimi, Director General of the Ajman Department of Tourism, Culture and Media, affirmed that the Ajman Esports Championship represents an integrated platform that brings together entertainment, innovation, and the creation of modern experiences, and reflects the Ajman Government’s direction towards investing in creative and digital sectors that have become a principal component of the future of tourism and the knowledge economy.
He stated: “Through this Championship, we are committed to providing a professional competitive environment that nurtures young talents and gives them a space to showcase their abilities, thereby contributing to cementing Ajman’s position as a regional hub for youth events and esports.” He noted that the Department will continue to develop a qualitative events agenda that keeps pace with global transformations and contributes to enhancing tourism and cultural activity, attracting new visitor segments, and supporting its vision of building a renewed and sustainable tourism experience.
The Championship is held with the support of the UAE Esports Federation, the Ajman Private Education Affairs Office, the Federal Youth Authority, Ajman Youth Centre, the Year of the Family initiative, and the Fursan Zayed Volunteer Team. It is also sponsored by Etihad Water and Electricity as official sponsor, alongside Oyoun Smart Systems, Al Qudra Sports Services, Laser Man, Z Game, and Red Bull — a scene that reflects the integration of roles between the public and private sectors in supporting youth events and advancing esports in the Emirate.
