The General Secretariat of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Ajman organised a session entitled “Safe Social Media for Youth Awareness” under the Hiwar (“Dialogue”) platform, as part of its efforts to strengthen community dialogue on priority issues and support knowledge-based policymaking — in alignment with the targets of Ajman Vision 2030 to build a more aware and sustainable society.
The session forms part of a study being conducted by the General Secretariat of the Ajman Executive Council, with the aim of understanding the impact of social media platforms on the youth of the Emirate of Ajman and exploring the most prominent opportunities and challenges associated with their use — contributing to the development of policies and initiatives that support the safe and responsible use of the digital space.
The study aims to assess the reality of young people’s use of social media platforms, analyse their social and behavioural implications, and arrive at recommendations that contribute to enhancing the digital quality of life for young people and supporting the efforts of relevant entities in this field.
The session addressed a number of themes relating to young people’s use of social media platforms — including the opportunities they provide for learning, communication, and creativity — alongside the challenges associated with privacy, digital security, and mental health, and the impact of digital content in shaping behaviour and values. The session also reviewed best practices in promoting a culture of safe and responsible use of digital platforms.
Participants affirmed the importance of strengthening digital awareness amongst young people and empowering families and educational institutions to fulfil their role in guidance and oversight. They also stressed the need to strengthen integration between government entities, educational institutions, and media organisations to develop awareness initiatives and programmes that protect young people and enhance their capacity to engage with the digital environment in an aware and safe manner.
Through the Hiwar platform, the General Secretariat of the Executive Council continues to advance a participatory dialogue approach on priority issues — supporting the development of knowledge-based government policies and initiatives, anticipating future challenges and opportunities, and enhancing quality of life in line with the aspirations and development vision of the Emirate of Ajman.
