Ajman Municipality Implements a Series of Landscaping Projects to Expand Green Spaces Across the Emirate
Beautification of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Street along 18 kilometres, beautification of the Corniche along 3 kilometres, and completion of 12 residential parks
The Ajman Department of Municipal Affairs and Planning has announced the implementation of a series of landscaping and afforestation projects for recreational facilities, as well as the enhancement of green spaces across the Emirate, contributing to the wellbeing and happiness of the community and raising quality of life, in alignment with the directions of Ajman Vision 2030 to create a civilised environment that enhances the Emirate’s attractiveness and quality of life, and in line with the strategic objective of increasing per capita public space.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Street Beautification Project — 18 Kilometres
In this regard, Dr. Engineer Khaled Moin Al Housani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, affirmed that these projects come within comprehensive and integrated plans covering all areas of the Emirate, which the Department is implementing to increase green spaces and develop parks and recreational facilities, contributing directly to providing a healthy and sustainable environment for residents and visitors.
Dr. Al Housani explained that the Department is currently implementing a project to beautify both sides of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Street along 18 kilometres at a cost of AED 9 million. The project includes the planting of shade trees, ornamental trees and flowering shrubs, in addition to the construction of a dual track for bicycles and scooters extending approximately 12 kilometres, alongside a rubberised walkway spanning one kilometre. The project has reached 60% completion.
Corniche Beautification
Dr. Al Housani spoke about the irrigation and beautification project for the Corniche, which includes irrigation and landscaping works for the new Corniche extending 3 kilometres, aimed at beautifying the area surrounding the running track, cycling path, play areas and rest areas, using plants suited to the coastal environment. The project is expected to be completed by the end of September.
Community Park
Within the framework of developing public parks, Dr. Al Housani stated that the Department intends to commence the implementation of the Community Park project in the Al Muntazi area, covering an area of 30,000 square metres. The park will feature a smart irrigation system relying on treated water, in addition to a sanitary services building, a running track, family seating areas, children’s play zones, and a dedicated area for exploratory play targeting various age groups. The park will also host the first model of a green glass dome containing systems simulating glacial, tropical and desert environments, at a cost of approximately USD 5 million, while the total cost of the park is around AED 11 million. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
12 Residential Parks
For his part, Mr. Ahmed Saif Al Muhairi, Director of the Agriculture and Public Parks Department at the Department, explained that the current projects reflect the Department’s vision of developing a comprehensive green infrastructure that meets the needs of all segments of the community. He spoke about the sustained focus on establishing residential parks and social spaces, with the completion of a project to construct 12 residential parks in various areas of the city currently underway at a total cost of AED 10 million. The project has reached 65% completion and is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
The Department is also implementing a project to upgrade recreational facilities in accordance with international standards for People of Determination, to ensure the provision of an inclusive and accessible recreational environment for all segments of the community.
It is worth noting that the Department, in cooperation with the UAE President’s Initiatives Office, is implementing a project to expand the irrigation network to cover larger areas of the Emirate. The project targets the construction of approximately 30 kilometres of recycled treated water transmission networks, in line with the objectives of the UAE National Agenda, which aims to reuse 96% of treated wastewater, contributing to the provision of high-quality water for agricultural purposes, city beautification, industrial uses and cooling station requirements.
