Ajman Records 98.1% in the Air Quality Index During the First Half of 2026

The Ajman Municipality & Planning Department recorded a rate of 98.1% in the Emirate’s Air Quality Index during the first half of 2026, compared to 97.8% during the same period in 2025 — reflecting the effectiveness of the Department’s efforts to enhance air quality and advance environmental sustainability, in alignment with the targets of Ajman Vision 2030.

Dr Engineer Khaled Moeen Al Hosani, Executive Director of the Public Health and Environment Sector at the Department, affirmed that the positive results reflect the efficiency of the Department’s environmental plans, which are built on developing the monitoring and inspection system and expanding the scope of environmental initiatives — contributing to the improvement of air quality and the protection of community health.

He explained that the Department continues to strengthen its air quality monitoring system through a network of seven environmental monitoring stations operating in accordance with the latest international standards and the classification of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment — with a future plan to increase their number to ten stations, keeping pace with urban expansion and enhancing the precision of environmental indicator monitoring across the various areas of the Emirate.

He noted that all monitoring stations are linked to the Environmental Data Management Programme, which provides continuous monitoring of air quality indicators, the issuance of environmental reports and notifications, and the measurement of a number of climatic and environmental parameters — including wind speed and direction, relative humidity, and the concentration of major gases and pollutants.

He indicated that the Department continues to implement the Environmental Compliance Programme — one of the most prominent initiatives supporting air quality improvement — which aims to enhance industrial establishments’ compliance with environmental requirements through the submission of periodic reports measuring emission levels, thereby contributing to the taking of necessary measures to reduce sources of pollution.

Al Hosani added that the Department continues its participation in the National Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) Programme, supervised by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, which is dedicated to monitoring and documenting emissions at the national level — supporting the preparation of data-driven environmental plans and reinforcing efforts to improve air quality and reduce emissions.

He concluded by affirming that maintaining air quality represents a priority within the Department’s strategy, noting the continued adoption of the latest technologies and environmental practices and the strengthening of national partnerships — contributing to the provision of a sustainable and healthy environment and supporting the UAE’s directions towards achieving climate neutrality and quality of life.
